When You Come Together (1 Corinthians 11:17-34) - 7/17/22

INTRO

  • Paul continues the discussion of “orderly worship”

  • vv. 17-34 he is teaching on the Lord’s Supper

  • They were coming together to observe the Lord’s Supper

  • They were coming together… but not for the right reasons.

  • January 31, 2022 Message on this text

  • We need to learn how important it is WHY we come together.

Come together for the better of others – vv. 18-22

because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse

  • Does more harm than good

  • When we gather we should build one another up

  • Church is not just about us… it is about others also

  • We have turned church attendance about us

Paul knew the church was divided. (not together)

  • They were thinking about themselves

  • Individuals or united?

Eph 4:1-6 – We need to be unified

  • In our calling

  • In our relationships

  • In the Gospel

    • Spirit

    • Son

    • Father

Ephesians 4:1–6 - [1] I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, [2] with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, [3] eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—[5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (ESV)

Remember… We call it CORPORATE WORSHIP

Come together for the good of your heart – vv. 27-34

Eats and Drinks in an unworthy manner

  • Unworthy when we come together

  • We come to remember His sacrifice, yet we are not willing to do the same

  • Hypocritical worship

    • Our attitude

    • Our actions

Examine yourself

  • Look within (our heart)

  • Our assurance

  • Our sanctification

Disciplined

  • Gets us back to where we need to be

  • Our attitude and action

  • Consider it Divine Mercy
