David’s Petition – vv. 1-3
[1] Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning. [2] Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray.[3] O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
My words, my groaning, my cry
David calling out to God.
Groaning – sighing, murmuring. (inner thoughts)
God hears our heart and our audible words
My King and my God
David was the king, but he is calling out to the KING
King provided leadership, stability, protection to the people.
David viewed the Lord in this personal manner.
His King and His God. His ruler and personal God. (Abba Father)

A since of renewed hope.
David’s Confidence – vv. 4-6
[4] For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. [5] The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. [6] You destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
His confidence was based on who God is. God’s Character
God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you.
God hates evil, yet evil exists under His sovereign rule and care.
God is holy, pure, righteous, and good
You destroy those who speak lies… bloodthirsty and deceitful man

David’s Hope – vv. 7-8
[7] But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you. [8] Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.
David’s hope is based on his fellowship with God.
Abundance of your steadfast love
Because of God’s love of David, he could enter His presence

In your righteousness
Make my way straight before me
David’s Request– vv. 9-10
[9] For there is no truth in their mouth; their inmost self is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue. [10] Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you.
Truth is not on their lips
Truth = God’s Truth
Make them bear guilt… let them fall by their own counsel
Their guilt is on them.
They have rebelled against you
They have sinned before a Holy God
David’s Refuge – vv. 11-12
[11] But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. [12] For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.
All who take refuge in you rejoice
True joy is found in the presence of the Lord
Protection over them… those who love your name… Favor as with a shield
Favor = God’s blessing
When we love God
We desire to be in His presence
In His presence is where one finds peace and provision
