Pastor's Blog: "Influence is Important"

YOURS FOR JESUS’ SAKE … A WORD FROM BROTHER TOM ….

"Influence is Important"

As always, I am praying that you will make every effort to be present for worship this coming Sunday. I know it’s a Labor Day Weekend, but Sunday is still the Lord’s day. If you are traveling, make sure to put attending a local, Bible-believing church on your agenda.

This week at TBC we will consider the importance of our influence on others. The nation of Israel had returned after the captivity in Babylon to rebuild the city of Jerusalem and the Temple of the Lord. What they needed more than anything was revival. In Ezra 9 & 10 we read of the beginnings of a great revival that continued through the time of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the walls of the city.

Ezra found conditions in Jerusalem unfit for revival to occur. He prays, “O my God, I am too ashamed and humiliated to lift up my face to You, my God; for our iniquities have risen higher than our heads, and our guilt has grown up to the heavens” (Ezra 9:6). This was the start of a time of confession and repentance. Ezra went on to pray, “And now for a little while grace has been shown from the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and give us a measure of revival in our bondage,” (9:8, emphasis mine).

I trust that you understand this is exactly what we need at TBC. I’m grateful for His amazing grace – I’m prayerful that He will send a “measure of revival.” Are you willing to humble yourself, repent of your sin, and embrace the Lordship of Christ in such a way that we might have revival? We’ll say more about it on Sunday; don’t miss it!

Next Wednesday, September 4, we will begin an important study on prayer. We will be using the book, How to Develop a Powerful Prayer Life, by Dr. Gregory Frizzell. This book revolutionized my prayer time; I believe it can do the same for yours. Prayer is the key to turning around our church – please join me for this great study. The books are available for a suggested donation of $5.

Sunday night activities start in October, more details to come. On October 20th, we will start a seminar called, “Understanding Your Motivation for Ministry.” This is a study of the Spiritual Gifts, based on my book, Your Reasonable Service.

More Good News!!! – COMING - October 26 & 27, GOING DEEPER WITH GOD CONFERENCE, with Dr. Gregory R. Frizzell! Please set these dates aside on your calendar, plan to attend and please be in prayer. Details to come soon.

It is a great joy to serve as your Interim Pastor, I love you, YFJS, Bro Tom
