1 Cor. 10:12-13 – Take heed lest you fall…No temptation has overtaken you… God is faithful… provided a way
The warning of idolatry
The danger of idolatry
The futility of idolatry
A couple of things to consider first:
They were loved
My Beloved – v. 14
Paul’s words are motivated by love and concern
Love one another – John 13:34 – A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. (ESV)
Love enough to care
Love enough to receive
They were empowered
Sensible People – v. 15
Practically wise. Doing based on our knowledge
They were a young church, YET that had all they needed to live out a faithful life.
I have no doubt you can do it!
Spirit of God, Word of God, People of God
The Warning of Idolatry – v.14
Flee – v. 14
Get way from… danger
Flee, Flee, Flee
Flee from Sin – 2 Cor. 6:14 – 7:1
Flee from fornication – 1 Cor. 6:18 (1st letter and 2nd letter…. flee!)
Idolatry – v. 14
Worshiping anything other than God
We are called to worship God in a TRUE WAY
VERY SERIOUS SIN
Strikes at the heart of God and who He is
We are saying that GOD IS NOT ENOUGH
We make God into another image (into the image of our heart and desires)
More than just objects alone
Philosophies of life, Passion of life, Culture
Anything that has our primary concern and loyalty
Job, hobbies, future, family, and etc.
It is not THE THING, but rather THE HEART OF OUR DESIRES for THE THING
