Our current Family Devotional Guide series is an exploration of the 119th psalm. This lengthy psalm is an acrostic psalm broken up into 22 stanzas, and we are covering one stanza each week. We pray this psalm, which focuses on the Word of God itself, will strengthen you in your walk with the Lord!
Day 1
Scripture: Psalm 119:169-172
Discussion: What does the psalmist request of the Lord in the 2nd half of verse 169? What other Scripture passages speak of the Lord giving us understanding concerning Scripture (think especially of passages that speak of the work of the Holy Spirit)? What does the psalmist request of the Lord in the 2nd half of verse 170? Find other Bible verses that speak of the Lord delivering His people. How do we respond when it appears the Lord is not delivering us from certain trials that come our way? Discuss how we can respond biblically to trials. The psalmist then turns his attention to praise in verses 171-172. Spend some time worshipping the Lord together.

Day 2
Scripture: Psalm 119:173-176
Discussion: The psalmist asks in verse 173 that the Lord’s “hand be ready to help me” and states in verse 174, “I long for your salvation.” What reasons does the psalmist give for his confidence in asking the Lord to help him and save him? In other words, why did the psalmist feel comfortable seeking the Lord for help in his time of need? What New Testament passages encourage us to approach the Lord for help? What is the psalmist’s view of the law of God in verse 174? Is that your view of the law of God? The psalmist again speaks of help in verse 175. In this instance, what does the psalmist ask the Lord to use in order to help the psalmist? Finally, the psalmist closes Psalm 119 by stating that he has “gone astray.” At the end of it all, the psalmist proclaims his weak sinfulness as well as the fact that he remembers the Lord’s commands. Even as believers, we will have a lifelong struggle with our sin nature. Ask for the Lord to help you live a godly life.
