The sermon for Sunday, September 26th is the 1st sermon in a 2-part series on relationships (as part of a larger series about the church). In part 1, we’re considering the subject of our relationship with God, which includes worship, the Word and prayer (both individually and together as a church during corporate worship services).
Day 1 – Worship
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:10-15; Psalm 145:3
Discussion: As we consider the subject of worship, spend some time discussing Solomon’s high view of God. Do you think that believers in America, generally, have a high view of God? How might it impact our worship to consider the greatness of our God?
Song: “Our God” by Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves, Jonas Myrin & Matt Redman
Day 2 – The Word
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:10-15; Psalm 138:2
Discussion: Solomon’s prayer in 1 Chronicles 29:10-15 is a response to the amazing gifts received from the people to use in constructing the temple. In the temple, the word of God was central with multiple Scripture readings, singing of the psalms, etc. We see the priority of Scripture from Psalm 138:2 where bowing toward the temple was combined with the truth that God has exalted His name (Who He is) and His Word (what He has said in the Bible). We cannot divorce God’s Word from the worship of God! Discuss some ways we might minimize the Bible in our worship, whether intentionally or not.
Song: “The Heart of Worship” by Matt Redman
Day 3 – Prayer
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:10-15; 17:16-27
Discussion: Compare the prayers of David and Solomon with regard to building the temple. Discuss the similarities and differences between both prayers. Song: “Be Thou My Vision” by Eleanor H. Hull & Mary E. Byrne
