Family Devotional Guide - 8/7/22

This week we’ll consider our sermon text from Sunday, 1 Corinthians 12:8-11, as well as other passages that deal with the subject of spiritual gifts. As you discuss each passage, think about how the Lord would like for you to use your own spiritual gift(s) for the good of others.

DAY 1

  • Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:8-11

  • Discussion: As we consider this passage, we see some general principles concerning spiritual gifts. Who gives the gifts and decides who gets a particular gift? Why is this significant? Discuss the significance of the gifts having the same source. Note the terminology Paul uses to make that point: “the same Spirit” (vv. 8, 9, 11), “the one Spirit” (v. 9) and “one and the same Spirit” (v. 11).

  • Song: “Holy Spirit” by Stuart Townend & Keith Getty

DAY 2

  • Scripture: 1 Peter 4:10-11

  • Discussion: How are we to use our spiritual gifts, and how does our use of those gifts display whether we are exercising godly stewardship (v. 10)? Describe the distinction that Peter is making between speaking and serving gifts. How are they alike? How are they different? What should be our motivation in using our spiritual gifts?

  • Song: “Lord, Be Glorified” by Bob Kilpatrick

DAY 3

  • Scripture: Romans 12:1-2

  • Discussion: In Romans 12:3-8, Paul instructs the church in Rome about spirituals gifts. However, before he delves into that topic, he reminds them of their need to live sacrificially. Discuss why it is important for every believer to “present your bodies as a living sacrifice” to the Lord? How does this idea (and the context of verses 1-2) instruct us concerning spiritual gifts?

  • Song: “Take My Life (Holiness)” by Scott Underwood
