Our current Family Devotional Guide series is an exploration of the 119th psalm. This lengthy psalm is an acrostic psalm broken up into 22 stanzas, and we are covering one stanza each week. We pray this psalm, which focuses on the Word of God itself, will strengthen you in your walk with the Lord!
Day 1
Scripture: Psalm 119:129-131
Discussion: How does the psalmist describe the testimonies of the Lord? How does His view of the Lord’s testimonies help the psalmist live in accordance with God’s law and will? What does the unfolding of God’s words do for the psalmist? What is a phrase we might use to describe the process of unfolding the words of God? Describe the psalmist’s condition in verse 131 as he longs for God’s commandments.

Day 2
Scripture: Psalm 119:132-135
Discussion: What does the psalmist ask the Lord to do (v. 132)? How does this relate to God’s love for us? Based on the psalmist’s request in verse 133 for God to “keep steady” his steps and to “let no iniquity get dominion over me,” what does this tell us about the psalmist’s belief about the seriousness of sin? Discuss how we can and should take sin more seriously. Finally, the psalmist prays that God would redeem him from personal attacks from his enemies (v. 134) and would “make [His] face shine” upon the psalmist. Why is it important to seek the Lord when we’re in need of rescue (obviously for salvation, but also for relief from personal attacks)?

Day 3
Scripture: Psalm 119:136
Discussion: The psalmist ends this section by stating, “My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law.” Spend some time praying for those in your life that are straying from the Lord. Also, pray for the Lord to give you strength to live a holy life.
Song: “Give Us Clean Hands” by Charlie Hall
