Our current Family Devotional Guide series is an exploration of the 119th psalm. This lengthy psalm is an acrostic psalm broken up into 22 stanzas, and we are covering one stanza each week. We pray this psalm, which focuses on the Word of God itself, will strengthen you in your walk with the Lord!
Day 1
Scripture: Psalm 119:97-100
Discussion: What is the psalmist’s view of the law? In other words, how does he feel about the law of God, and how often does he think about it? The psalmist then declares that God’s laws gives him greater wisdom and understanding, even beyond his enemies, his teachers, and the aged. How might the word of God help us be wiser than each of those three categories of people? What does this tell us about the usefulness of God’s word for every stage of life?

Day 2
Scripture: Psalm 119:101-102
Discussion: The psalmist is careful to “hold back [his] feet from every evil way.” What does this tell us about the psalmist’s view of God’s word and personal holiness? Spend some time discussing practical steps we can take to keep ourselves from sinning against the Lord. Not only did the psalmist keep away from evil, the psalmist also commits himself not to turn away from God’s rules. Discuss the importance of both avoiding sin and living righteously. Why is it important not only to abstain from what is unholy and evil but also to do what is holy and good?

Day 3
Scripture: Psalm 119:103-104
Discussion: The psalmist declares that the word of God is sweet to him. Why is it important not only to obey the word of God but also to find it good an pleasing? What might our view of God’s word indicate about the state of our own souls? Why is it important that we find delight in obeying the Lord? In light of loving God’s word and finding it “sweeter than honey,” the psalmist declares: “I hate every false way.” Loving the truth also means hating falsehood. How might we grow in loving God’s commands and hating sin?
