Day 1
Scripture: 1 Timothy 3:14-15
Discussion: In this passage, the apostle Paul is very concerned about how the church behaves. In what ways do church members “misbehave?” Notice especially that Paul speaks of the church as being “a pillar and buttress of the truth.” How might we make doctrinal truth our primary focus as a church?

Day 2
Scripture: 1 Timothy 3:16
Discussion: Why is it important to confess what we believe? What do you think Paul means by speaking of the doctrinal truths that follow as “the mystery of godliness?”

Day 3
Scripture: 1 Timothy 3:16b
Discussion: Verse 16 gives us a confession of faith used by the early church. It details the basic content of what the early church believed about Jesus’ life and death. Spend some time looking through God’s Word and finding the Scriptural basis for each area. For example, concerning the phrase “He was manifested in the flesh,” find the verses that describe the Incarnation of Jesus. As with many confessions of faith, there is lots of content packed into this confession of faith!
