Our current Family Devotional Guide series is an exploration of the 119th psalm. This lengthy psalm is an acrostic psalm broken up into 22 stanzas, and we are covering one stanza each week. We pray this psalm, which focuses on the Word of God itself, will strengthen you in your walk with the Lord!
Day 1
Scripture: Psalm 119:65-67
Discussion: The psalmist declares that God has “dealt well” with him. How might the psalmist have experienced the Lord’s blessing in his life? Discuss how you have experienced the Lord’s blessing personally. How does the word of God give us “good judgment” and how do we see a lack of such judgment in our society today? How does the psalmist view his affliction? Does it seem the Lord used affliction in the psalmist’s life in a positive way?
Song: “Blessings” by Laura Story
Day 2
Scripture: Psalm 119:68-70
Discussion: The psalmist states “you are good and do good.” How does a firm belief in the goodness of God and His acts impact the level of trust we should have in His statutes? Might disobedience in our lives reflect our lack of trust in the Lord to guide us by His commandments?
Song: “Good, Good Father” by Anthony Brown & Pat Barrett
Day 3
Scripture: Psalm 119:71-72
Discussion: The psalmist again turns his attention to his affliction. What word does he use to describe the fact that he was afflicted? What was the positive result that came from the psalmist being afflicted? The psalmist ends this section by focusing on the law and states that it is “better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces” (v. 72). What does this tell us of the value of God’s commands? How might we grow in our respect of God’s law?
Song: “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” by Thomas O. Chisholm & William M. Runyan
