Family Devotional Guide - 6/19/22

This week’s Family Devotional Guide is based on our Scripture reading for Sunday, June 19, 2022.

Day 1

  • Scripture: Psalm 46:1-3

  • Discussion: Discuss the following terms used by the psalmist: refuge, strength, help. Why do these words so aptly describe our God? In light of who God is, the psalmist can say “therefore we will not fear.” How and why does the nature of God give us peace and calm our fears?

  • Song: “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)” by Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash & Scott Cash.

Day 2

  • Scripture: Psalm 46:4-7

  • Discussion: What is the significance of the river in verse 4? Most importantly, what is the significance of the presence of God being in the midst of “the city of God”? How is the city of God set in contrast to the nations and kingdoms of this earth (v. 6)? What do the titles “Lord of hosts” and “God of Jacob” tell us about God?

  • Song: “A Mighty Fortress” by Frederick H. Hedge, Jordan Critz, Martin Luther & Matthew Boswell

Day 3

  • Scripture: Psalm 46:8-11

  • Discussion: The psalmist writes, “Come, behold the works of the Lord.” Spend some time discussing all the things the psalmist mentions as literal acts of God in verses 8-9. In light of what God can and does do, the psalmist commands us to “be still” (“cease striving”). In other words, we can rest in light of knowing He is in control. Finally, the psalmist issues a declaration from God Himself that He will be exalted. Spend some time discussing and considering whether your life is lived first and foremost to exalt the Lord.

  • Song: “All Glory Be to Christ” by Dustin Kensrue
