This week we will dig deeper into 1 Corinthians 8 and the principles Paul lays down regarding how we should respond to controversial issues.
Day 1
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 8:1-3
Discussion: Paul begins this section (in the ESV, it bears the heading, “Food Offered to Idols”) by focusing on knowledge and love. What does Paul say about knowledge? What pitfalls must we avoid as we are learning? What is the result of love, and why is it important?

Day 2
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 8:4-6
Discussion: Spend some time discussing the difference between idols and the God of the Bible that we worship. How would you describe the God of the Bible in a way that distinguishes our heavenly Father from idols?

Day 3
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 8:7-13
Discussion: Spend some time discussing the scenario that Paul describes here. Obviously, some had no problem eating a piece of meat knowing that it had been used in some kind of sacrifice, while others had an issue with that. What principles did Paul give the church in Corinth to guide their behavior? What was Paul’s priority? What current issues are similar to the situation of eating meat offered to idols?
