Family Devotional Guide - 5/29/22

For our Family Devotional Guide this week, we’ll be looking at 1 Corinthians 9:19, one of the verses from Sunday’s sermon, and other passages connected to it. That verse states: “For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.”

Day 1

  • Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9:19

  • Discussion: What does Paul mean in using the phrase “servant to all” in connection with evangelism (described by Paul in terms of winning others)? How did the apostle Paul demonstrate that in his own life? How have you served others (or seen others do so) in ways that opened up the opportunity for evangelism?

Day 2

  • Scripture: 1 Peter 3:1

  • Discussion: The apostle Peter refers here to believing wives winning over their unbelieving husbands. Describe the conduct that Peter might have had in mind that could lead an unbelieving husband to consider his wife’s Christian faith. How might the wife’s conduct help or hinder her husband coming to saving faith in Jesus Christ?

  • Song: “Mighty to Save” by Ben Fielding & Reuben Morgan

Day 3

  • Scripture: 1 Peter 2:12

  • Discussion: In this passage, Peter is encouraging every believer to live their lives in such a way that would acknowledge that Jesus is Lord. Some commentators believe that “glorify God on the day of visitation” could mean the Second Coming of Jesus Christ or simply a day in their lives when the Lord “visits” them to convict them of their sins. Whether it is the more general theological concept or a personal “day of visitation,” the goal is that even those who persecute us would come around to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord! Spend some time praying for unbelievers in your life. Ask the Lord to help you combine a verbal witness of the truth of the gospel with a lifestyle that backs up your message.

  • Song: “Across the Lands” by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend
