This week we will consider what the Bible has to say to us about the preeminence of Jesus Christ from Colossians 1:15-20

Day 1

• Scripture: Colossians 1:15-17

• Discussion: Discuss the meaning of the phrases “the image of the invisible God” and “the firstborn of all creation.” What is the significance of these phrases? Also, discuss Jesus Christ’s role in the creation of all material things.

• Song: “How Great Thou Art” by Stuart W.K. Hine

Day 2

• Scripture: Colossians 1:18

• Discussion: How is Christ “the head of the body, the church”? What other passages speak of Christ being the head of the church? What implications flow from the headship of Christ over the church, and what errors might we fall into regarding authority in the church?

• Song: “The Church’s One Foundation” by Samuel J. Stone & Samuel S. Wesley

Day 3

• Scripture: Colossians 1:19-20

• Discussion: What does it mean that “the fullness of God was pleased to dwell” in Christ? What is the significance of the cross of Christ? How did Jesus’ death accomplish reconciliation?
