As we have just recently remembered the death of our Lord Jesus Christ and celebrated His resurrection, we come to the next major event in the life of Christ—the Ascension. With that in mind, we’ll be discussing Acts 1:6-11 with our families this week.
Day 1
Scripture: Acts 1:6-7
Discussion: In light of Christ’s recent resurrection, the apostles still expected Jesus to set up His earthly kingdom and establish His reign in all of its glory. Why do you think the disciples wanted Him to set up His earthly reign immediately and restore the nation of Israel to power? What might have been their reactions to Jesus’ words in verse 7 (as well as His upcoming Ascension)?

Day 2
Scripture: Acts 1:8
Discussion: Jesus redirected their attention from earthly power to the power of the Spirit and the power of the gospel. Jesus wanted the disciples to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit, and He wanted them to see that their focus should be on evangelism. What lessons do we learn from this? How have you seen the desire for power or building a brand/empire get in the way of evangelism?

Day 3
Scripture: Acts 1:9-11
Discussion: Why do you think the disciples were gazing into heaven long enough that two men in white robes (possibly angels) had to tell them to move along? Why do you think the Lord sent these men to tell His disciples to disperse? What application might we draw from this?
