DAY 1
SCRIPTURE: Philippians 3:1, 4:4; 1 Thessalonians 5:16
DISCUSSION: Paul urged the church in Philippi to rejoice and referred to the fact that he had already given them this instruction (with possible reference to other instruction in Philippians). Why did you think Paul reiterated the command to “rejoice?” Also, how does knowing that Paul wrote this while imprisoned impact your understanding of the importance of praising the Lord?

DAY 2
SCRIPTURE: Philippians 3:2-3; Galatians 5:1-15
DISCUSSION: Paul did not mince words with regard to those who taught contrary to the gospel! In particular, his reference to “look out for those who mutilate the flesh” was probably strong language to refer to those who believed that circumcision was a good work that merited salvation. The implication is that if they’re doing it with that motive, it’s as good as mutilation. Why do you think Paul spoke out strongly against the Judaizers, those who taught salvation by works?

DAY 3
SCRIPTURE: Philippians 3:4-11
DISCUSSION: This passage is a wonderful look into Paul’s testimony! Consider the following questions: What does it mean that Paul counted everything as loss to gain Christ? In light of the value he placed on knowing Jesus, what does it tell us about Christ to consider that everything else was in the “rubbish” category by comparison?
