Day 1
Scripture: Ephesians 5:22-24
Discussion: As we consider the subject of marriage from Sunday’s sermon, it is vital to understand one of the most pivotal passages in Scripture about the topic, Ephesians 5:22-33. Paul opens this section with three verses focused on wives. Describe the command given to wives. What is the role of a wife with regard to her husband? What is to be the ultimate authority in the life of a wife (see the last phrase of v. 22)?

Scripture: Ephesians 5:25-30
Discussion: What is the primary command given to husbands in this section? What are the things that a husband is to do to fulfill that command? Why do you think more space is devoted to men and their roles as husbands than to women and their roles as wives?

Scripture: Ephesians 5:31-33
Discussion: What are the implications of becoming “one flesh”? What all is included in that phrase? Describe how the marriage relationship pictures the relationship between Christ and the church. Paul ends with two distinct, final commands. Why do you think he focused on telling women to respect their husbands and for husbands to, once again, love their wives? Have you seen situations where husbands and wives disobeyed these commands? How has it negatively impacted their marriages?
