Day 1
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 4:14-16
Discussion: While the apostle Paul is known for his very blunt, direct language in chastising the church at Corinth, we see here that he did so with a father’s heart. Examine these three verses and discuss how they show us Paul’s heart. In what ways might Paul want them to imitate him?

Day 2
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 4:17
Discussion: Paul relied upon Timothy heavily to help teach faithful doctrine and practice. From this verse, how would you describe Timothy’s role? How might he have served the apostle Paul and assisted him in ministry?

Day 3
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 4:18-21
Discussion: Some in the church of Corinth doubted that the apostle Paul was really going to return to Corinth to check up on them, but Paul said that he would be back to check in on these gossipers. In fact, he reminded the church that the power of God is not just a matter of talk, and Paul (probably sarcastically) told the church he would be able to see what power these gossipers actually had. In this case, by “power” he referred to kingdom power (v. 20). What did Paul mean when he wrote that “the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power?” In what ways might Paul have come “with a rod” versus “with love in a spirit of gentleness?”
