3rd Week of Advent -- Joy
Day 1
Scripture: Zephaniah 3:14-15
Discussion: These verses describe the outcome of the Lord being in the midst of His people, most likely referring to the end of all things when Jesus Christ reigns fully and vanquishes His enemies, bringing peace to His people. As we celebrate Advent, we celebrate the first coming of Christ as a baby, but we also look forward to His Second Coming. With that in mind, discuss why God’s covenant people had (and have and will have) reason to rejoice (v. 14). What is the significance of the Lord being with His people? How does this connect with one of the titles for our Lord—Emmanuel?
Song: “Rejoice Greatly” from Handel’s Messiah (based on Zechariah 9:9-10)
Day 2
Scripture: Zephaniah 3:16-18
Discussion: In this passage, the prophet connects the presence of the Lord with a call to “fear not.” How does the presence of the Lord give us strength? What is the significance of the Lord rejoicing over His people with gladness (v. 17)?
Song: “Mighty to Save” by Ben Fielding & Reuben Morgan
Day 3
Scripture: Zephaniah 3:19-20
Discussion: Discuss all the things the Lord Jesus will fix and set right in the end. How does this give us hope as His people? How does this impact your view of God? How might this impact your worship of the Lord?
Song: “Worthy of Worship” by Mark Blankenship & Terry W. York
