Day 1
Scripture: Isaiah 40:1-2
Discussion: In this passage, the prophet is told to comfort the people of God. What was his message of comfort? Why is this good news for God’s people? In verse 3, we see mention of a voice crying out, and this voice was applied to John the Baptist preparing the way for Jesus the Messiah’s earthly ministry. So, with the context being focused on Jesus, we can see that vv. 1-2 find ultimate fulfillment in Jesus. With that in mind, discuss how Isaiah 40:1-2 connects to Jesus Himself.

Day 2
Scripture: Isaiah 40:3-5
Discussion: What does this verse teach about preparation for the Lord to work? When God intervenes He brings low the things that are exalted and exalts the things that are low. Where do we see Jesus doing exactly that, and how does that describe the gospel of Jesus Christ?
Song: “Every Valley Shall Be Exalted” from Handel’s Messiah
Day 3
Scripture: Isaiah 40:6-11
Discussion: Discuss the importance of God’s Word (vv. 6-8) and His greatness (vv. 9-11). How does our existence compare to the Word of God? How is God’s greatness displayed in vv. 9-11? What attributes are mentioned in this passage? What mighty acts do we see in this passage?
