Day 1
Scripture: Philippians 1:21; Galatians 2:20
Discussion: What does it mean that “to live is Christ, and to die is gain?” Explain the significance, in particular, of the fact that Paul considered “to live is Christ.” What does that tell us of Paul’s purpose in living his life?
Song: “Lord, Be Glorified” by Bob Kilpatrick
Day 2
Scripture: Philippians 1:23-24
Discussion: Consider the two motivations Paul had. He longed to be with Jesus, but he also longed to stay alive so he could serve others. Do you long for heaven? Why or why not? Have you considered that God’s purpose in keeping you alive is partly so you can minister to others?
Song: “Your Presence is Heaven” by Israel Houghton & Micah Massey
Day 3
Scripture: Philippians 1:25-26
Discussion: How important were other people to Paul? Insight can be gained from looking at his desire for the members of the church at Philippi. Do you believe that Paul’s focus on others (and how he might serve them) helped him defeat disappointment in his own life and persevere?
Song: “Make Me a Blessing” by George S. Schuler, Ira Bishop Wilson
